Telehealth for Couples & Families

Couples, families, and therapy groups can meet with you in one shared video room. Each person can join from their own device through their own portal login — or the household can still sit together on one device. Everything below also applies to therapy groups, with the notes difference called out at the end.

Running the Session​

  1. Schedule the appointment for the couple, family, or therapy group with a virtual/telehealth location, as usual.
  2. At session time, open the appointment on your calendar and click the teal video icon — the same flow as a 1:1 video session.
  3. Each member opens their own client portal and clicks Join Session on the appointment — from separate devices in separate locations, or from one shared device if they're together.

The Waiting Room with Multiple Members​

Arrivals collect in your waiting room. A single arrival shows the usual "[Name] is in the waiting room" with Admit to Session; when several members are waiting you'll see their names listed together with an Admit All button, and everyone waiting is admitted at once. A member who arrives after that appears as a new waiting-room notice — admit them the same way.

Once two or more participants are in the call, the video area becomes a labeled grid so you can see everyone at the same time.

Notes and Recording​

Couples & families: the Start Notes toggle works exactly as in a 1:1 session — the note generates with your couples/family template and files on the couple's shared chart, capturing the interaction rather than a single-client narrative.

Therapy groups (rosters): the Notes toggle doesn't appear in group-session calls, because group documentation is per member — after the session, write it from the session's Group Note composer just as you would for an in-person group. See Group Therapy.

Good to Know​

  • In therapy-group sessions, members and guardians appear to each other by first name only; full names are never shared with the other participants.
  • Admission is for everyone currently waiting — there's no per-member selective admit within one notice.
