Typing a Note

Prefer typing to dictating? The Type a Note page takes free-form text — stream of consciousness is fine — and structures it into your note template's sections, ready to review and sign. It's the third way to get a session into an AI-drafted note, alongside recording and dictation.

From an appointment

  1. Open the appointment and click the Type Note button (keyboard icon). The client and session date come along automatically.
  2. Your default Format (note template) is preselected — change it if this session calls for a different one.
  3. Type what happened in the big text box. Don't worry about structure, order, or polish: what the client reported, what you observed, interventions you used, plans. The AI's job is to organize it into the template's sections — yours is just to get it out of your head.
  4. Click Generate note. You land on the note itself, and the sections fill in when the draft is ready (usually under a minute). Review, edit, and sign like any other note.

A few details

  • Couples and family sessions work too — pick the couple/family unit and the note lands on the unit's chart, exactly like a recorded session.
  • Your text is saved as the note's transcript, so the regenerate option on the note works if you want to re-draft with a different template later.
  • Prefer full control? The "Start from a blank note instead" link at the bottom creates an empty note in the editor with no AI involved — the same as the old Type button behavior.
  • Your Note Preferences (writing style, note length, De-identify Names) apply to typed notes the same as recorded ones.
