Week of June 8: external claim filing, a single source of truth for billing type
For practices that file some claims outside the platform, this was your week.
New
- External filing (CMS-1500): download any claim as a filled CMS-1500 PDF and mark it Filed externally — it leaves your Unbilled list and stays tracked on the client's record, per claim, with no practice-wide mode to flip. Mix electronic and external filing freely, payer by payer.
- Per-line Place of Service on claims — mixed office/telehealth batches now bill each session under its own location code.
Improved
- Billing type (self-pay vs. insurance) became one consistent, stored fact about each session instead of being re-guessed by every screen. Past sessions no longer flip retroactively when a client's billing setup changes, and the appointment editor shows the true insurance/client-owes split instead of assuming self-pay.
- Copays now bill the client-responsibility amount on invoices, with a single primary coverage enforced (no more ambiguity about which policy is primary).
- Insurance sessions appear in billing as soon as the session time passes — no overnight wait.
- Practice Tax ID and billing address flow to claims from one place in Settings, with validation.
Fixed
- Editing a session's billing line opened with the wrong type preselected, and switching a line from insurance to self-pay didn't stick — both corrected.
- Deleting an invoice could orphan related records; paid sessions past the first hundred invoices showed "No Invoice" incorrectly.
- Telehealth session links are now bound to the invited participant — hardening against link misuse.
